A teenage girl was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at a parking lot in California. The incident happened after a large house party in an apartment complex in Chico. A person shot at a group of people from their vehicle.
The six victims, who were leaving a party cleared by the police, included four young men aged between 18 and 21, and a 17-year-old girl. Police do not know if anyone was specifically targeted in the shooting. The surviving victims were not seriously injured.
The police chief said the shooting was an “isolated incident,” meaning it was not part of a larger problem, and there is no threat to the community. Police are actively searching for the suspect in the shooting, and they have leads they are pursuing.
Before the shooting, police had responded to the party following reports of someone with a gun. They found someone with a gun and arrested them. The arrested individual matched the description of a suspect from a separate incident that occurred several hours earlier at another party in Chico.
At that party, a fight broke out, and one person was hit with a gun while another was hit with a glass bottle. Both victims were not seriously injured. The individual who was arrested at the second party was charged with possession of a firearm and reckless discharge.
